GRENDIZER TYPEFACE Originally meant to be the logotype for a clothing company, it was later extended to be a full type face. It was influenced by Japanese Katakana logotypes, specially the one for a toy robot from the late 1970’s, called Grendizer. Meant to be a display font, no lowercase letters were designed, instead a letter alternate is provided. Later, driven by the frustrated search of good display faces in Katakana, the previously designed Grendizer is now being expanded into the first of the Japanese alphabets. Design has proven a very difficult task. In Katakana the legibility greatly depends on the thick and thin strokes of the brush and trying to replace that is a delicate design issue. At the bottom are a few characters that will, no doubt, change slightly before all 75 characters of the simple Katakana alphabet are designed.
